Holy Orders is the sacrament that continues Christ’s mission through priesthood. Deacons, Priests and Bishops who enter the priesthood continue the work of the apostles and they dedicate their lives to God. When they are ordained through the Sacrament of Holy Orders they vow to lead other Catholics by bringing them the sacraments (especially the Eucharist), by proclaiming the Gospel, and by providing means to holiness.
Is God Calling You to the Priesthood Or Religious Life?
The Diocese of Chicago offers an “INSEARCH Discernment Group” (IDG) for post-college men with a serious interest in diocesan priesthood. It is a six-month program (October through March) with meetings held every week in the evenings in downtown Chicago. They also offer an “Exploring Priesthood Weekend” (EPW) held at various times throughout the year. This is a retreat designed to help men discern God’s call to the diocesan priesthood. Throughout a weekend of prayer, discussion, presentations of diocesan priesthood and group interaction, men begin to better understand God’s movement in their life.
If you feel you have such a calling to serve God and you want to talk about a vocation to the Priesthood or Religious Life, you are most welcome to speak with Father Heinz, our Parish Pastor.
You may also contract the Chicago Diocesan Vocation Office and to speak with Father Francis Bitterman, Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Chicago (phone: 312-534-8298), email: firstname.lastname@example.org).
