A Lector (also known as a Minister of the Word) is a layperson who has the honor of proclaiming God’s Word to the congregation at Mass and at other occasions of public worship. Lectors carry out their primary function during the Liturgy of the Word. They proclaim God’s Word so that the Parish, strengthened by the words of the Holy Scripture, may develop to a deeper love of God and a fuller Christian life. Lectors proclaim the Word of God during Weekend, Weekday and Holy Day Masses.
Lector’s Time Commitment
Lectors are rotated, normally serving at a Mass once every six weeks. One lector is assigned to each Mass.
