St. Norbert Parish offers young Catholics and adults an opportunity to grow in their faith and to be more active in Mass by becoming an Altar Server. Some of duties of an altar server include lighting the candles on the altar, carrying them in procession and preparing wine and water for the sacrifice of the Mass. An Altar Server is very important to the liturgy.
This service opportunity is open to fifth graders or older. Training generally takes place in the spring of 5th grade. Altar Servers can continue to participate throughout high school as well as through adulthood.
Altar Server Time Commitment
Altar servers are scheduled to serve approximately one Mass per month. Additional service times for weddings, funerals and other special liturgies may also be requested.
How to become an Altar Server
If you are a student at St. Norbert School, fifth grade or older, please inform your teacher of your desire to serve. If you are a member of St. Norbert Parish, contact Michael Ward, Director of Music & Liturgy or Father Dan Folwaczny or click here to complete the on-line Altar Server Sign-Up Form.
Altar Servers Schedule
If you are unable to serve when you are scheduled, please contact another server to fill-in for you as soon as possible (don’t wait until the night before!). You must find you own substitute.
An Altar Server’s Prayer
You call Your people to worship,
to be with You and one another at Mass.I thank You for having called me
to assist others in their prayer to You.
May I be worthy of the trust placed in me,
and through my example and service
bring others closer to You in love.
I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ,
Who is Lord forever and ever.
