Through the generosity of many parishioners, Christmas joy is given to many families and individuals in need who would not be celebrating Christmas without help. The Giving Tree provides a wonderful opportunity for St. Norbert Parish families to reach out and extend a hand.
Each Advent Season, the Giving Tree is placed in the Church entry. “Coded tags” that list the sex, age and “wishes” of the recipient are placed on the tree. Parishioners are asked to take a tag, purchase the gift and bring the unwrapped gift to the Church by a specified date, along with the tag. Collected gifts are then sorted, wrapped and delivered by Christmas Eve.
The time commitment will be variable depending on the activity and the number of gifts collected.
The tree is setup in the Church the Sunday following Thanksgiving. Tag preparation is normally complete 1 or 2 weeks prior to Thanksgiving so the tags are ready for the tree as it is setup.
Gift wrapping usually takes place on the Third Sunday of Advent. The committee begins early in the morning and wraps until all gifts are wrapped. Volunteers can sign up for the hours they are available to help.
Delivery of the gifts occurs throughout the following week. Drivers are needed to help deliver the gifts!
How to Volunteer
Participation in this ministry can be as simple as removing a tag from the Giving Tree, purchasing the gift and returning it to the church. You can also be intimately involved with this ministry by assisting with the preparation of the tags, decorating the Giving Tree, sorting and wrapping the gifts and distributing the gifts presented. All help is welcomed with this annual Advent ministry.
