A THEOLOGY OF THE ST. NORBERT RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM

The mission, which the Church received from Her Founder, our Lord Jesus, was to teach and preach the gospel to all. The Religious Education Program of St. Norbert Parish is essential to His mission in our parish.

The education in faith begins when parents present a child for baptism. Parents are asked on that day to take the primary responsibility for the faith and faith practice of their child. The priest prays that the parents may not only be the (first teachers( but also (the best of teachers bearing witness to the faith by what they say and do, by word and example.(

The church and parish wish to support and assist parents in this awesome responsibility. The religious education program and its catechists collaborate with parents to ensure a strong environment for the faith development of a child.

This development is fostered in many ways: classroom learning, participation in prayer, sacramental preparation, special celebrations, practices, observance of holy seasons and service to others. Sunday Mass participation is an especially critical factor in full faith development. In all these ways, a child is led to a relationship to the Lord Jesus, friendships with other children and a sense of being part of our parish family.
