Dear Religious Education Parents,
Welcome to the St. Norbert Religious Education Program. We hope the time the children spend in class will help them know the love of Christ.
Catechesis links our human experience to the revealed word of God, helping people make meaning out of their lives. When children experience God’s loving presence at home they form a basis for answering the important question of life. The task of parents and catechists is to relate the message of Christ in a way children can understand. Sharing your faith is easier if you know why you do it and are secure in your own knowledge. Toward this goal, we are conducting a series of presentations and discussions during the Monday, 4:30 class sessions this fall in Grace Hall; babysitting will be provided.
Sept. 29: “The Importance of Religious Formation and Mass” with Fr. Bob Heinz.
Oct. 27: “Connecting With Our Children” How do we raise competent children with strong self-esteem and compassion for others? With Kelly Matthews-Pluta, LCSW of the Family Service Center.
Nov. 17: “How Do I Come to an Adult Enlivened Faith?” with Fr. Bill Vollmer.
The RE office will also offer a few books for sale for parents at Open House and Catechetical Sunday. A Well Built Faith by Joe Paprocki, and Living the Mass by Joe Paprocki and Fr. Dominic Grassi, are easy to read but answer many of the questions we all ask.
This year the parents will be asked to join the children for prayer services in class. Watch for the invitation from your child as to the date. Your participation means a lot to the children. Also new this year is Sunday masses at 9:30 with special participation by the different grade levels. Look for this schedule in September. Don’t forget to look at the “Take Home Pages” the children bring home each week for suggestions to talk about faith, and attend all parent meetings.
All these things help you be involved with your child’s faith development. Above all, take your children to church and talk to them about your faith in God; these actions will have the greatest impact in leading your children to a life of faith.
Sincerely,
Judy Klein
Director of Religious Education
