The SPRED program at St. Norbert Parish ministers to youths 11-16 years old. The participants receive religious development and education through spiritual movement, music and liturgical words. The SPRED program also prepares participants for the sacraments of First Communion, First Reconciliation and Confirmation.
A typical experience at a St. Norbert SPRED gathering features a room filled with friends and Catechists quietly working on an activity with spiritual music playing. During the activity, participants discuss an object or picture as it relates to Scripture and daily lives. The class relocates to the Eucharist Chapel for prayer experience. A brief passage from the Bible is read and a message reflecting the Scripture is shared with everyone. Participants listen to a song and sing God’s praises. A small meal is shared reflecting the sharing of the Eucharist in Mass.
St. Norbert Parish SPRED group normally meets two times each month from September through May, on Wednesdays from 6:00-8:30 PM in the Vineyard or SPRED room.
If you have a teen, age 11-16, or know of a teen with special challenges who would benefit from the SPRED Program, please contact Donna Birren (email@example.com) or Adele Stocco (firstname.lastname@example.org) or the Family Faith Formation Office. Those wishing to be Catechists for the SPRED Ministry do not need any educational or special needs training. New SPRED Catechists quickly discover the joy and love received from these special friends. It is clear that Christ is present in the hearts of everyone in the SPRED room. SPRED is not just a ministry of serving others, but also a ministry that fulfills spiritual needs.
If you are interested in participating as a volunteer in our community, please call contact Donna Birren (email@example.com) or Adele Stocco (firstname.lastname@example.org) or the Family Faith Formation Office. No prior experience is needed. Training and observation is offered throughout the year.
