Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) High School Basketball
CYO Sports is part of the parish’s Youth Ministry program. CYO Basketball is a great way for St. Norbert teens that are not on a high school team to get together and enjoy the sport. Teams play against other CYO teams from the area. Practices begin in early November followed by a regular season that begins in December. The program concludes with an exciting Championship Tournament in February. The CYO league consists of three Divisions, Freshman/Sophomore Boys, Junior/Senior Boys, and High School Girls. Games take place at the Maryville Academy in Des Plaines, IL.
The CYO mission is to:
- bring youth together
- foster strong relationships in families and communities
- help youth lead more fulfilling and rewarding lives through sports
CYO’s philosophy states that every player participates and every athlete must be treated with dignity regardless of their ability. Participation on a CYO team allows players to learn the values of cooperation, teamwork, sportsmanship, responsibility and respect. A minimum of one coach per team is required for a team to participate. The goal of a CYO Coach is to facilitate a positive environment in which athletes can grow physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
Volunteer to Coach
Each team must have at least one adult coach (21 years or older) at practice sessions and games. Coaches must complete the Catholic VIRTUS course and a Coaching Coaches course to be eligible to assist a team. Site Commissioners verify the status of ALL coaches, prior to the start of every game.
If you are interested in coaching, please contact Maggie Bruce, St. Norbert Youth Ministry Coordinator, firstname.lastname@example.org, 847-687-7696.
